Welcome to Team Dog!

Between 20th and the 26th of September, Team Dog will be driving 3000 miles across Europe to Rome and back to raise money for Abbeyford Children's Unit in St. Helens. The challenge, organised by Streetsafari, is to buy a banger for less than £100 and take it on a gruelling route across France, through Switzerland and the Alps, and through Austria before turning south and heading into Italy and to the rally's end point in Rome. When we get to Rome, the plan is turn around and get the car back to Blighty before it finally falls to bits where we hope to sell the car on eBay with all money raised going to our good cause.

It should be pointed out that the rally takes place on public roads and is in no way a race. Nor is it strictly a rally as none of the event takes place against the clock. The purpose of the journey is to drive your £100 or less banger to Rome whilst completing various crazy tasks along the way. The object is to make sure your car makes it to the finishing line in one piece. Not that this will be easy. There is no backup and if your car breaks down, you are on your own.

To give us the best chance of getting to Rome, Team Dog have sourced a Rover 218 diesel to be our weapon of choice for the rally. It has already covered 210,000 miles and was bought from eBay for a mere £80. Its modifications include a musical horn which plays the theme from the Godfather, a manual override for the radiator fan and a dog themed exterior.

And with this we are set to go!
