Why are we doing this?!
Team Dog's Captain, Andy, wanted to raise money for Abbeyford Children's Unit for a very personal reason. It's time to get serious, if we may, while we remember why we are doing this.
Andy's younger sister Gill was born with serious mental and physical disabilities which left her needing constant care. His parents looked after Gill until her untimely death at the young age of just twenty-two. It is impossible to thank all of the individuals and organisations who were involved with Gill's care, but Abbeyford was very special.
Gill would spend occasional evenings or weekends at Abbeyford and her parents were able to relax in the knowledge that she was being well cared for. Sometimes the staff would take Gill bowling, which she particularly enjoyed, or even to a specially adapted caravan by the sea. Other times they would have "girlie nights in", treating her to a makeover, or just a happy social evening. Whatever they did she was treated with love and respect.
It is impossible to put a valuation on the care that was provided for Gill at Abbeyford but we knew that the professional staff were the best in the business. When this opportunity arose it provided a perfect way to say "Thank You" to Abbeyford, and with the money we raise, other children like Gill will be able to share new, enjoyable and exciting experiences. So as it's for a good cause, dig deep. Please give what you can by following the "Donate" link above.
